1934 state basketball champs

Take a look at the Georgia state champs for 1934: the Canton High School boys team.

The team, captured in the photo above for history right after their state championship win, won the Class B title in finals held in Athens, Georgia.

Player Paul Cagle was recruited by famed Wally Butts to play basketball at the Georgia Military College, and he later played at Reinhardt. He was also a member of Canton’s semi-professional baseball team.

Ben Jones would go on to play basketball and golf at Georgia Tech and was a renowned golfer for a time (he was cousin to famous Bobby Jones).
