How would you have liked to golf with Bobby Jones in Canton?

Bobby Jones dominated golf in the 1920s and had become one of the most famous athletes in the world of the era.

On a summer day in 1938, he was on hand to inaugurate the newly reopened Canton Golf Club. His grandfather happened to be R.T. Jones, who may have been an even more familiar name to Canton residents than the golfer’s.

R.T. Jones built the 9-hole course and it was rumored that Bobby helped his grandfather design it.

That July 13, 1938, day also saw another Georgia Golf Hall of Famer and celebrity, Charlie Yates, in attendance, and the whole event warranted a short write in the New York Times:
